Tents

What We Have Learned to Look for in a Tent
  • Few poles
  • Easy to set up
  • Bathtub floor
  • Floor plan with room enough for air mattresses and gear
  • Tall enough for the tallest person to stand up straight
  • Thick, tarp-like floor
  • Stick to your budget
What to Consider
  • Fancy tents with lots of rooms can be challenging to set up
  • Big tents require a big flat area when set up
  • Tarp may be needed under thin tent floors
  • When a tent says it fits 6 people, it really only comfortably fits 3
You do not need a fancy tent or a camper of any kind to get started camping with your family!
Just GET A TENT and GO!
With that being said, here are a few tents that we have used in the past.....

Our First Tent: A Coleman 2-Pole Dome Tent

What we liked....
- Easy to set up
- Bathtub floor
- Fairly inexpensive (purchased at Target)
- Kept us dry even during downpours

Why We Changed Tents
- Our family grew and we wanted more space
- After many years of use the rainfly stopped working (leaks)

Bottom Line:  Still our favorite tent!

Our 2nd Tent: Coleman Multi-Room Tent

Our Second Tent: A multi-room Coleman Tent

What We Liked
- BIG...lots of room!
- "Porch" for storing gear
- Doors easy to open and close

Why We Changed Tents
- Too big...hard to find big flat areas for it
- Difficult for us to set it up - lots of poles

Bottom Line: We only used this tent one time!

Our Third Tent: the Eureka Copper Canyon Cabin Tent

What We Liked
- Roomy, plenty of space
- We can stand straight up even near the walls
- Pretty easy to set up

Why We Changed Tents
 - Found something else (the Jumping Jack Tent Trailer)

Bottom Line: Great tent!  We would still be using it had we not found the Jumping Jack!
